Rick Owens Rick Owens
Автор: Жанр: Taschen Год: 2013 Страниц: 120 Дата загрузки: 11 июня 2015
«Glunge guru — Glamour meets grunge in the dark, dramatic world of Rick Owens. There are a few other designers like Rick Owens, whose work is so instantly recognizable by cut and bias alone. Born in California, Rick Owens launched his eponymous label in 1994. His draped, dark, and perfectly cut aesthetic is the antithesis of the sunshine-saturated, bleached-teeth image of LA, and in many ways has been integral to his success. Owens relocated to Paris in 2003, where his goth meets grunge aesthetic — affectionately known as «glunge» — continues to grow from season and season. Today, Owens is a much loved and respected fixture on the international fashion scene. His vision stretches beyond fashion to include furniture, jewelry, and fur. As well as four fashion collections a year, Owens also designs Lilies, a successful diffusion line that offers a more playful take on the designer's signature style, a bespoke line of furniture that incorporates everything from antlers to stone and wood, and his own fur collection entitled Palais Royal.»

Polaroids Polaroids

«Polaroids occupy a special place in the hearts of many photo enthusiasts who remember a time when «instant photography» meant one-of-a-kind prints that developed within minutes of clicking the shutter. What was once a crucial tool for photographers to test their shots before shooting on film has now become obsolete in the face of digital photography. Luckily for us, legendary photographer Helmut Newton saved his test Polaroids, allowing a privileged and rare chance to see the tests from a selection of his greatest shoots over a period of decades, including many from the TASCHEN titles SUMO, A Gun for Hire, and Work. Selected by his widow, June Newton, from over 300 photos featured at the 2011 exhibition «Helmut Newton Polaroids» at the Museum for Fotografie in Berlin, this collection captures the magic of Helmut Newton photo shoots as only Polaroids can.»

Unflinching truth: Beholding the Animal British artist Lucian Freud (1922-2011) was widely considered the most important figurative painter of his generation. Master portraitist and specialist in nudes, Freud used impasto to create depth and intensity while restraining his color palate to mostly muted hues. His portraits may be physically unflattering to their subjects, but they are honest, frank, and unapologetic. I paint people, Freud said, not because of what they are like, not exactly in spite of what they are like, but how they happen to be.

Rivera Rivera

Diego Rivera: A Revolutionary Spirit in Modern Art It was as a revolutionary and troublemaker that Picasso, DalI and AndrE Breton described the husband of Frida Kahlo, Diego Rivera, but he was also responsible for creating a public art that was both highly advanced and profoundly accessible. From 1910 Rivera lived in Europe where he absorbed the influence of Cubism. After the Mexican revolution, however, he returned to his homeland and harnessed the lessons of the European avant-garde to the needs of the Mexican people. His own murals, and those of the Mexican Muralists who followed his example, presented a utopian vision of a post-revolutionary Mexico. Rivera's historical paintings expressed his interpretation of the revolution and its ideals, in a style that showed him returning to the pre-Columbian roots of Mexican culture, re-inventing a colourfully realistic visual idiom that could appeal directly to a largely illiterate people. This is the first study which, independently of the exhibition circuit, coherently presents the work of this extraordinary artist.

This book covers all the aspects of their illustrious career, from the earliest furniture experiments and molded plywood designs to the Case Study Houses to their work for Herman Miller and films such as the seminal short, Powers of Ten.

The Eiffel Tower The Eiffel Tower
Автор: Жанр: Taschen Год: 2008 Страниц: 160 Дата загрузки: 26 марта 2011
This book features the iron colossus: the construction of the Eiffel Tower in drawings and photographs. When it was completed in 1889, the Eiffel Tower was the highest structure in the world, measuring 300 meters (984 feet). Built for the World's Fair, it was initially granted a 20-year permit; this permit was thankfully extended and now the Eiffel Tower is one of the world's most famous structures, having become practically synonymous with Paris itself and receiving more than six million visitors annually. This reprint explores the design and construction of this remarkable building; published in 1900 as a large folio by Gustave Eiffel himself in a limited edition of 500 copies, the original was never sold on the market — it was exclusively given and donated by Eiffel. Featuring 53 double-page plates of 4,300 technical drawings explaining the design as well as 33 photographs of the construction, the book reveals the complex and fascinating process of bringing the Eiffel Tower to life. Though the technical drawing will especially appeal to designers wishing to discover the engineering genius behind Eiffel's masterpiece, everyone can appreciate this very rare and special book about Paris' glorious mascot.

Michelangelo Michelangelo
Автор: Жанр: Taschen Год: 2000 Страниц: 96 Дата загрузки: 15 июня 2009
During the Renaissance, the great homosexuals, from Leonardo da Vinci and Botticelli to Michelangelo and Raphael, transformed the history of art, attaining to ever closer imitation of nature whilst altering it to their taste. From their art, ambiguous beings were born, half man, half woman; female breasts were planted on male busts and a young man's gaze peeped out beneath the eyelids of a Madonna. From his earliest youth, Michelangelo never ceased to suffer, and thereby to create. He attempted to reconcile the apparently conflicting forces that inhabited him: earthly passions and fear of God. Hence the edifice devoted to beauty, celestial and infernal alike, that Michelangelo raised to the glory of God. It has no equivalent nor descendance. His predecessors aspired to Heaven through faith alone; Michelangelo sought to rise through the contemplative exaltation of beauty. His passions found expression in the human body as it emerged from the Creator's hand. And they did so even on the ceiling of a papal chapel: the Sistine. This exposed him to a chorus of derision from prudish critics, who accused him of exhibiting paganism in a place of religion, and who clothed his immodest Titans in painted breeches. It was Michelangelo's curse to remain a colossus outside and apart from his time.

Walton Ford: Pancha Tantra Walton Ford: Pancha Tantra
Автор: Жанр: Taschen Год: 2015 Страниц: 304 Дата загрузки: 03 августа 2017
Fantastic menagerie: The sinister majesty of Walton Ford's wildlife At first glance, Walton Ford's large-scale, highly-detailed watercolors of animals may recall the prints of 19th century illustrators John James Audubon and Edward Lear, and others of the colonial era. But a closer look reveals a complex and disturbingly anthropomorphic universe, full of symbols, sly jokes, and allusions to the 'operatic' nature of traditional natural history themes. The beasts and birds populating this contemporary artist's life-size paintings are never mere objects, but dynamic actors in allegorical struggles a wild turkey crushes a small parrot in its claw; a troupe of monkeys wreak havoc on a formal dinner table, an American buffalo is surrounded by bloodied white wolves. The book's title derives from The Pancha Tantra, an ancient Indian book of animal tales considered the precursor to Aesop's Fables. This updated edition — featuring the artist's most recent works — includes an in-depth exploration of Walton Ford's oeuvre, a complete biography, and excerpts from his textual inspirations: Vietnamese folktales and the letters of Benjamin Franklin, the Autobiography of Benvenuto Cellini and Audubon's Ornithological Biography.

Rothko Rothko
Автор: Жанр: Taschen Год: 2015 Страниц: 96 Дата загрузки: 16 марта 2018
Pictures as Drama Mark Rothko belongs to the generation of American artists who completely revolutionized the essence of abstract painting. His stylistic evolution, from a figurative visual repertoire to an abstract style rooted in the active relationship of the observer to the painting, embodied the radical vision of a renaissance in painting. Rothko characterized this relationship as a consummated experience between picture and onlooker. His colour formations indeed draw the observer into a space filled with an inner light. Rothko always resisted attempts to interpret his paintings. He was mainly concerned with the viewer's experience, the merging of work and recipient beyond verbal comprehension. Rothko was an intellectual, a thinker, a highly educated man. He loved music and literature and was very involved in philosophy, especially in the works of Friedrich Wilhelm Nietzsche and of ancient Greek philosophy and mythology. Rothko was a protagonist within the movement of American painters who became known as the Abstract Expressionists. First formed in New York City during the inter-war years, this group was also called the New York School. In all the history of art, they became the first American artists to receive international recognition as a significant movement. Many among them, including Rothko, have become legendary figures.

Eric Stanton: The Dominant Wives and Other Stories Eric Stanton: The Dominant Wives and Other Stories
Автор: Жанр: Taschen Год: 2015 Страниц: 576 Дата загрузки: 15 октрября 2018
Femmes fatales have their way: 20 stories from America s premier fetish artist Eric Stanton (1926 1999) was America s premier fetish artist, a man of very particular tastes, as all fetishists are. Most keep their work and sex preferences separate, but Stanton made his desires the center of his art, pouring his passions onto the page. These preferences included, in no particular order, female dominance, female fighting, mixed gender wrestling, and face sitting. Perhaps if the man born Ernest Stanzoni in New York City, 1926, had grown taller, all would have been different. As happened, he topped out around 5 5 (165 cm), making him smaller and weaker than many women, and rather than bemoan this shortcoming, he chose to eroticize it. Then, like Robert Crumb and Tom of Finland to follow, he put his fantasies on paper. Stanton produced paperback book covers, magazine illustrations, comics and even wrestling and smother videos, but what he is best known for is his Stantoons: self-published 16 to 28-page booklets produced between 1982 and his death in 1999. These booklets best represent Stanton s rich and complex fantasy life, as well as the lives of his fans, whose fantasies he also incorporated. This new hardback edition of The Dominant Wives & Other Stories, brings together the finest of the Stantoons, along with Stanton s most famous series for Irving Klaw: Bound in Leather, parts 1 and 2. Done in pencil, pen and ink, gouache and mixed media, these 20 stories represent the best of Stanton, who represents the best of fetish.

Functional beauty: The seminal modernist movement Founded in Weimar in 1919, the Bauhaus school developed a revolutionary approach that fused fine art with craftsmanship and engineering in everything from architecture to furniture, typography, and even theater. Originally headed by Walter Gropius, the Bauhaus counted among its members artists and architects such as Paul Klee, Lyonel Feininger, Wassily Kandinsky, LAszlO Moholy-Nagy, and Marcel Breuer. In 1930, Ludwig Mies van der Rohe took over as the leader, but soon after, in 1933, the Nazi government shut down the school. During its fourteen years of existence, Bauhaus managed to change the faces of art, architecture, and industrial design forever and is still hugely influential today.

Subliminal creatures: Dreamworlds beneath the surface Francis Bacon (1909-1992) possessed the rare ability to transform unconscious compulsions into figurative, human-like forms that seem to evoke the raw emotions that bore them. Mixing realism and abstraction, Bacon delves deep beneath the surfaces of things, opening up the human body to reveal the chaos that lies within and struggling with all that is inexplicable. Erotic and grotesquely beautiful is the work of this legendary painter whose haunting, distorted figures have inspired entire generations of painters who seek to emulate his highly original style.

Anchored in the Earth: The charm of concrete architecture today Who has not heard of concrete? It is that ugly stuff they make highway bridges and crumbling walls out of, right? Well, yes, and no. Concrete is actually a name applied to a remarkably wide range of substances used in construction, and, when it is properly handled, it is actually one of the noble materials of contemporary architecture. A kind of liquid stone at the outset, it is malleable, durable, and, in the right hands, capable of prodigious feats of engineering. This two-volume book highlights the best work done in recent years with concrete. Included are stars like Zaha Hadid, Herzog & de Meuron, and Steven Holl, but also surprising new architects like the Russians SPEECH, rising stars of the international scene like Rudy Ricciotti from France, and even artists such as James Turrell, who turned the famous concrete spiral of Frank Lloyd Wright s Guggenheim in New York into the setting of one of his most remarkable pieces.

100 Contemporary Green Buildings (количество томов: 2) 100 Contemporary Green Buildings (количество томов: 2)
Жанр: Taschen Страниц: 696 Дата загрузки: 09 февраля 2009
The most exciting new buildings in the world are now almost all environmentally aware, sustainable, and conceived to consume far less energy than ever before. That architecture is one of the major sources of greenhouse gases in the world makes this new trend all the more significant. This book brings the best examples of green projects from the Architecture Now! series together with numerous new, never-seen-before projects. Well-known architects like Frank Gehry and Norman Foster are present right alongside young, up-and-coming creators from Latin America, the United States, Europe, and Asia. This is not a technical book, nor are its contents limited to any predefined category. Being “green” means being aware of the responsibility implied in the construction and use of modern buildings, and there are many ways to express this rising consciousness. Some solutions, the ones generally called passive, are as old as the history of architecture, while others are born of cutting-edge technologies. Both approaches and many more are included in this groundbreaking collection of 100 of the world’s most innovative and recent eco-friendly buildings.
