«Mystery Tour» is a two-part, 60 minute video mystery thriller written by a television crime writer and adapted for ELT by Peter and Karen Viney. It is intermediate level and provides a third stage of video material beyond the level of «A Weekend Away and «A Week by the Sea» (both part of Streamline English Video). It may be used for all classes of students in their third or fourth year of studying English, as an accompaniment to any intermediate level course and for all learners wanting to revise their English in small groups or on their own at home. «Mystery Tour» consists of two 30 minute video cassettes, an Activity Book for students and a Video Guide for teachers. The Video Guide for the teacher gives advice on getting the most out of the Video and the Activity Book and ensures a proper interactive use of the package by students. Step-by-step guidance is provided along the lines of theose in the «Streamline» videos though new ground is broken by using the Video as the basis of «problem contextualization» of language; ie situations are set up which will cause learners to generate lots of examples of a particular language point. Alternative lesson plans are also offered.»
