Over its 20-year history, the ASSAR Group has had a major impact on the cityscape of Brussels. The firm's projects to date include offices, housing, industrial buildings, research laboratories, retail, new buildings and renovation, urban planning, interior design and programming. ASSAR's success is a result of its desire to design a contemporary, contextually appropriate architecture. This monograph features some of ASSAR's major projects, including headquarters for well-known companies such as AXA Belgium, ING Bank, L'Oreal, Robert Bosch and UCB, as well as several research laboratories including a substantial facility for GlaxoSmithKline Biologicals. Other projects featured include Belgium's first new military academy in more than a century and the new NATO headquarters (in association with SOM). Active in the development market — as demonstrated by three MIPIM Awards won in Cannes, France, in 2000, 2005 and 2008 for Residence Novalis, Mondrian and Madou Plaza respectively — ASSAR has participated in and won numerous competitions. Today ASSAR is involved in projects around the world — in locations such as the United Kingdom, the United States, Switzerland, Hungary, Luxembourg and Algeria — and continues to participate in large international competitions.
